Spring and Summer in Vermont
If you're like most of us, you crave time to relax. A vacation with enough action to keep your family and friends laughing... but away from the lines and noise of the crowds.
Vermont's remarkable that way. First, it's easy to get here (less than a day's drive for many). Vermont borders are just one hour from Boston or Montreal... less than four hours from New York City.
Once here cruise on our scenic highways, or perhaps browse the many gravel and dirt roads where vistas and rich green canopies tease you along - you choose, at your pace.
Our roads meander through lush valleys where cows, sheep and horses graze in pastures stretching to woodland. Look closely and you'll see butterflies and bees, catch a scent of the wildflowers. Gentle hills swell and fall with a rhythm all their own. Age old Green Mountain passes await; the adventurous are rewarded with spectacular views of distant mountains and valleys below. Serenity reigns.
Yet behind this peaceful facade you'll readily find bustling villages and cities - Vermont style.
Fairs and festivals galore: cotton candy, horse pulls, and the midway for kids of all sizes. Lots of cool blue lakes to swim, boat or fish. Freedom to hike the Green Mountain National Forest. Celebration fills village streets as locals honor a special person or occasion... a moving tribute to America.
Children yearn for adventure which will take many forms. Bicycling, skate board parks, hiking the famed Long Trail, thrilling carnival rides and water - water - most everywhere. It's all here, and more. Vermont loves kids and it's pretty certain the kids will tire before they try everything.
Art, theater, music and dance, antiques and auctions, satisfy most adult tastes. Taste also means fine dining, country fare, or convenient food. Variety abounds, and you may choose to take home some local cookbooks to prove it.
Culinary delights are found in church suppers where "home made" is the gospel. You'll find gatherings mostly on weekends, in summer and fall where locally harvested foods are set before you. Not to mention the mouth-watering desserts that follow. Share your table with a farmer's family, an artist, or a local television reporter.
Country inns and prominent restaurants cater to just about every palate with plates prepared by chefs from noted culinary schools.
Vermont is the most rural state in America, few people, open spaces, room to roam, where unwinding from the rigors come more easily than most other places.
Native Vermonters just say, "we prefer it." Chances are you'll love it!
