Day 1 Agenda (November 19)

Experts from Gallagher, Flynn & Company, one of the region’s most respected tax and advisory firms, will discuss how manufacturers can leverage research and development (R&D) tax credits to fuel innovation, reduce costs, and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving global market. Beyond product development, many manufacturers overlook the substantial credits available for process improvements such as automation, lean manufacturing, and quality enhancements.

Attendees will gain insights into qualifying activities, documentation strategies, and recent legislative updates that impact credit eligibility. Whether you’re developing new products, improving processes, or integrating advanced technologies, this session will help you identify hidden opportunities for tax savings and strategic advantages.

As manufacturers face increasing pressure to reduce costs, minimize waste, and meet sustainability goals, the transition to circular business models is gaining momentum. In this session, Professor Akshay Mutha from the University of Vermont will explore the principles and practical applications of closed-loop supply chains and remanufacturing operations. Attendees will learn how companies can recover value from returned products, design processes that extend product lifecycles, and implement systems that drive both economic and environmental benefits. Through real-world case studies and actionable strategies, Professor Murtha will highlight opportunities for Vermont and New England manufacturers to build resilience, strengthen competitiveness, and position themselves as leaders in sustainable manufacturing.

Day 2 Agenda (November 20)

Plastics are essential to modern life — from medical devices to advanced materials — but the industry is also at the forefront of sustainability challenges and innovations. Adam Peer, Senior Director of Plastics Sustainability at the American Chemistry Council (ACC), will share how plastics manufacturing is evolving to drive economic growth, support sustainability, and shape the future of the industry.

This Town Hall is a unique opportunity for Vermont and New England manufacturers to help shape the 2026–2030 National Strategic Plan for Advanced Manufacturing—the federal roadmap that sets priorities for strengthening U.S. manufacturing. Revised every four years, the plan outlines national strategies for advancing research and development, creating jobs, driving economic growth, and enhancing national security.

By participating, you’ll ensure that the voices and perspectives of our region’s manufacturers are included in the conversation. This interactive session complements the federal Request for Information (RFI), providing a direct channel for manufacturers to share insights, highlight opportunities, and influence priority areas that will guide future federal action.

Your input will help position our region at the forefront of national manufacturing policy. Don’t miss the chance to make your voice count.
